The immigration debate has occupied the USA political landscape for the last four years. The life of Doe Deere, however, gives the discourse another dimension. The dimension, which Deere gives, the discourse is full of admiration. According to her, USA has always represented opportunities and a better life. This according to Deere is the wider view of USA by majority immigrants. Doe Deere is now a household name in the world of fashion here in the USA and her products have received recognition from different fashion bodies.
Doe Deere journey to the USA started when she was a small girl, living in Russia. Through media and fashion magazines, she created a mental picture of a perfect life in USA. Although she admits that part of her imagination was partially wrong, she has succeeded in this country. The decision to immigrate to the USA was made by her family; Deere, her sister and their mother. Emigrating from Russia to the USA was a journey of two sisters and a mother making a life decision on their future. The first two years according to her was hard for them and although it was the hardest, Deere is grateful that the experience shaped their vision of life. Living in homeless shelters also inspired them to be successful in the USA.
After two years of living an average life, things started opening up. Doe Deere points out that she got a chance to be an entrepreneur and their mother secured a job as an accountant. These developments completely changed the direction of their lives. It was, however, one decade later that she was able to actualize her childhood dream of creating a makeup brand. Through Lime Crime, she has not only given the immigration discourse a new perspective but she is a living proof that USA immigrants have a chance to make a difference.
Apart from being a serial entrepreneur, she has used her position as a major actor in the fashion world to push for a united approach to immigration. She believes that if people like her would be given a chance to work on their ideas in the USA, the future (of immigrants) will be unmatched.
